The Marin County Office of Education selection committee has announced the recipients of the MCARE 2023 Scholarship Program. They will be recognized at our July 11th luncheon and will hopefully attend the luncheon so we can meet them and congratulate them in person.
The three recipients are:
Mia Mitaine, freshman at Brown University, granddaughter of MCARE member Nancy Hackett
Lisa Bordessa, Master study program at Sonoma State University, granddaughter of MCARE member Marin Co Deputy Sheriff Newall Snyder, now deceased.
Leah Coale, Junior at St. Mary's College, daughter of MCARE member Sgt. Chris Coale, retired, from San Rafael PD.
MCARE 2024 Scholarship Information
This membership benefit was created exclusively for the son; daughter; grandson; or granddaughter of a current or a deceased MCARE member. Please don’t confuse MCARE with MCERA which is the Marin County Employees Retirement Association. They manage our retirement funds and benefits; whereas, MCARE is a voluntary, member-supported association of retired local government and safety employees.
Scholarships will be awarded to the top students meeting our criteria who are pursuing higher education and/or third-level or tertiary education or continuing education (college, university, vocational programs such as nursing, police or fire academies, or a trade school).
The scholarships are named in honor of three deceased members who contributed greatly to your Association:
The application deadline and criteria are final - no exceptions. The application and all accompanying documentation (school transcript, 3 letters of recommendation & photo) must be received by Marin County Office of Education No later than TBA.
Interviews will be conducted on TBA . Interviews will be conducted by the Marin County Office of Education’s Selection Committee. They are flexible regarding requirement to be present for the interview.
I encourage MCARE members to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. The economy has made it more challenging each year for students to further their education, this scholarship offers some assistance.
