The MCARE Scholarship 2019 Selection Committee (Laura Trahan, Jesse Madsen and Lesley Haynes) named by Ken Lippi acting for Mary Jane Burke, County Superintendent, has named the winners of the MCARE Scholarship. There were several applicants with three being selected. We owe a debt of gratitude to Ms. Burke and her staff. Ms. Lynn Ford was particularly useful to me. I also wish to thank President Gene Pennington for his assistance in the process.
This year there was no applicant for the graduate student award (Coffrini) so the MCARE Board elected to grant an extra award in another category to the applicant the Committee determined most qualified.
The persons selected are Quin Somers, son of Teresa Somers (Bob Roumiguiere Award); Sydney Augustine, granddaughter of Emille (Mel) Augustine (Bob Roumiguiere Award); and Jacqueline Bondanza, granddaughter of Margaret Caramucci (Agnes Nathanson Award). The three scholarship selectees were awarded $2,000 each. Information on the awardees qualifications will be presented in the July KIT.
The winners and their parents will be invited to our luncheon on July 14, 2019. Staff of the County Superintendent will also be invited so you can learn more about the plans of these young achievers.
MCARE 2020 Scholarship Information
Dear MCARE Members:
Your Board increased our three scholarships to the amount of $2,000 per scholarship at our meeting on March 7, 2018. This membership benefit was created exclusively for children or grandchildren of dues-paying members. Please don’t confuse MCARE with MCERA which is the Marin County Employees Retirement Association. They manage our retirement funds and benefits; whereas, MCARE is a voluntary, member-supported association of retired local government and safety employees.
Scholarships will be awarded to the top students meeting our criteria who are pursuing higher education (college, university or trade school). The scholarships are named in honor of three deceased members who contributed greatly to your Association: MCARE Scholarship Honoring Agnes Nathanson to a graduating high school senior; MCARE Scholarship Honoring Bob Roumiguiere to an undergraduate student; and MCARE Scholarship Honoring Joe Coffrini to a graduate student.
The application deadline and criteria are final - no exceptions. The application and all accompanying documentation (school transcript, 3 letters of recommendation & photo) must be received by Marin County Office of Education on Monday, April 20, 2020.
Interviews will be conducted on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 and Thursday, May 7, 2020, by the Marin County Office of Education’s Selection Committee. They are flexible regarding requirement to be present for the interview. Please mail or deliver entire application package to:
